Saarinen Crush

I really really want a Saarinen table (LOVE LOVE LOVE), but at $1,676.00, it’s not in the budget for now. Boo-hoo.

I’ve settled on the DOCKSTA dining table – a low-budget version  from Ikea.  I recently found the table on Craiglists for $80. It retails for $180, so I’m happy I saved some money there.

I’m happy with DOCKSTA table for now and it’s been fun looking for chairs to pair with it. I’ve discovered pretty much anything will work.

Here are some examples of chairs paired with either the Docksta or Saarinen table .  Total awesomeness.

I could go on and on. There’s no shortage of images with the tulip pedestal table and  a variety of chairs that work for it.

Check back soon. I found some chairs on Craigslist circa 1970′s that I plan on reupholstering. Really excited about finding some fun fabric for them!

Project “Blank Canvas”

For my first post on Styled Haven, I felt it would be apropos to introduce the apartment and cover where we are thus far in the moving in process.

Let me begin with:

  1. We’re pretty much starting from scratch.
  2. It’s a rental and we’re probably only staying here for a year.
  3. Budget, budget, budget.

We were lucky enough to get our landlords to paint the bedrooms in a color I was able to choose. I had some paint samples lying around so I slapped those up and picked one that the boyfriend and I could agree on.  It’s a really pretty soft gray. To my surprise, the color was even lovelier than I expected. The rest of the walls in the apartment are all white.

To start our nest, we purchased a super comfy new mattress. We had a metal frame from boyfriends’ old place so we are using that in the meantime.

So, bedroom = only mattress and metal frame…you feel my pain!?

We also bought a stylish futon (I think its from Urban Outfitters) on Craigslist. It was meant for the 2nd room for guest to sleep on, but somehow has turned into our sofa (not for long if I can help it). We’re using an Ikea desk I had for the TV set-up. We also have a mid-century accent chair we pulled from boyfriends’ storage that needs some tlc. He also had four black leather stools ( the small square kind) that we joined together for a mock coffee table. That’s pretty much it in terms of the items we have so far in the living room area. Actually, that’s it for the whole apartment!

Keep checking back, I’m going to add some photos soon..
