This week for color fun Friday, we’ll look at how seemingly colorless black and white can really add drama and pizzazz to any space. Black is authoritative and powerful; because black can evoke strong emotions, too much can be overwhelming. White, on the other hand, projects purity and cleanliness. It is considered a neutral color and encourages us to clear clutter or obstacles.
I’ve always been a big fan of all white with these dark wood floors. Add in the strong black details and it makes a big dramatic impact. Aren’t those stair railings great!?
A tub in the center of the room! So amazing! I can just see myself taking a bath in this classically designed bathroom. Nice neutral palette, classic details and black woodwork. Très chic.
Using a black and white area rug is a great way to make a statement in any room. Mix in an accent color or two….and voilà. Like these beautiful fuchsia colored flowers and chartreuse lamps. I like the brass details as well. They add a nice sophistication to the room.
Mixing patterns can be tricky. This is a great example done well. The trick is to vary the sizes of the patterns and not mix more than a few. Like this area rug which has a smallish sized pattern and the chair and matching pillow which have a fairly large pattern. They all blend seamlessly.
Black just screams class. In this modern kitchen, the dark cabinets are offset with the white walls. Making a nice sharp contrast. I really like the addition of the yellow accented art.
This monochromatic room is sophisticated and chic. Again, the starck contrast with the black against the white gives the room a dramatic feel. The gray curtains adds a softness to the bold room.
Love the mid-century modern feel of this space. The wood sculpture and detail in the lounge chair adds warmth to the heaviness of the solid black piece of furniture and rug.
In this almost nearly all white room, the wallpaper adds a playful element to the otherwise colorless room. The black containers on the window sills stand out strongly and mirror the woodsy graphics in the wallpaper.
The bold statement of these lamps are hard to miss. They stand out sharply against the white backdrop and bring in a traditional feel to the space. The red accents are tried-and-true with the black/white combo.
